Now that you have explored your Diamond Painting set, it’s time to start painting. We have put together a step-by-step guide for you.
Step 1: Upkitting, if you are using a sorting system
Label your containers with the symbol stickers from our sticker sheet. Then, pour all the colors into the designated containers. If the resin drills have static electricity, place a small piece of a dryer sheet into the containers.
Step 2: Prepare your diamond painting canvas
Roll out your canvas on your workspace. Use the washi tape to tape off the border around the design. If you prefer, you can also use the washi tape from the toolkit to divide the design into individual sections. For beginners, we recommend 5x5 cm squares. Advanced crafters like to divide them into 10x10 cm sections. Once you have finished preparing your canvas, it is time to peel back the transparent film from your first section and start painting.
Step 3: Prepare your diamond painting pen
Now take your diamond painting pen and the wax pot. Remove the protective film from the top of the wax pad. Then, press the metal tip of the pen into the wax so that it picks up a little bit. The wax allows you to transfer the diamonds from the tray onto the canvas. If you prefer to paint with tweezers, you can skip this step as you won't need any additional accessories.
Step 4: Place your first diamond painting stones
Start in a corner. Choose a symbol that appears frequently in the exposed area. Take the container with the corresponding symbol from your sorting system and pour some stones into the tray. Shake the tray back and forth with gentle hand movements until the diamonds are in the correct position—with the rounded side facing up. Now, pick up a stone with your pen or tweezers and place it on the symbol on your canvas. Find all the matching boxes within the exposed area and repeat these steps until you have filled all the boxes. Then, pour the remaining stones back into the container and continue with the next color until the entire section is finished. After that, remove another piece of the transparent film to fully paint that section as well.
Step 5: How to store your canvas properly during breaks
Although painting is addictive, everyone needs a break sometimes. To protect the adhesive, you should cover any exposed areas with the film during breaks to prevent dust from getting on it. If you are taking a longer break and want to clear your workspace, you can easily roll up your diamond painting. Please note:
- Pictures with round diamonds are rolled with the stones facing inwards.
- Pictures with square diamonds are rolled with the stones facing outwards.
Step 6: Hanging your finished picture
Once your picture is finished, you have various options for hanging it on your wall at home. You can stretch the canvas over a stretcher frame or display it in a beautiful picture frame to enjoy your artwork for a long time to come. Since we at Diamond Painting Witches use nothing but high-quality products, the diamonds will retain their full color brilliance even after many years.

Frequently asked questions about this motif
What is Diamond Painting?
What is Diamond Painting?
Diamond painting is a relaxing hobby in which sparkling works of art are created from small plastic stones (diamonds). Similar to "paint by numbers," you place the stones onto a self-adhesive canvas that is printed with symbols.
What is the difference between round and square stones?
What is the difference between round and square stones?
Round diamonds: They are easier to place because they do not require precise alignment. Ideal for beginners.
Square diamonds: They fill the canvas completely (without gaps) and create a more detailed, mosaic-like overall image.
